Vincentian Student shines in Taiwan

Gordon Shallow a Vincy Student presently studying in Taiwan, is making a name for himself and his country of birth St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Shallow a former student of the Marriaqua St. Joseph’s Convent, is home for rest and relaxation, after an intensive course in the Mandarin Chinese course at the Mandarin Chinese Language and Preparatory academic courses for University Studies upon his return to Taiwan.

Prime Minister Gonsalves chastises media

Vincentian Prime Minister, Dr. Ralph Gonsalves has criticized the mass media in his country for not reporting on what he regards as an important national issue.

“News papers always criticizing governments. We’re in the business together. If you drop short of a length I think it is only reasonable that I make a comment. I’m not pulling them over the coals. I’m just making an honest comment as a nationalist on the issue,” Dr. Gonsalves said as he referred to a court ruling in which his government received judgement in the High court to forfeit 100 acres of land from foreign hands in Union Island.

EC dollar the strongest in the region

For over 30 years the EC dollar has been pegged to the US dollar at $2.70, Vincentian Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves stated that the EC dollar is the strongest currency in the region after the United States dollar and possibly the Canadian dollar.

According to him, the net asset position of the Eastern Caribbean currency union and the net foreign assets position of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) remains strong at the end of April 2007 despite robust growth in merchandise importation and a depreciation of the real effective exchange rate.
